Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War PS4 -Game Crashing FIX/ Error Code CE-34878-0

Black Ops Cold War is finally out on all platforms including the next-gen consoles. The game when compared to Call of Duty Modern Warfare did receive a lot of criticism on the grounds of visuals and gameplay being a little slower. COD had always been one of the most competitive multiplayer out there.

Therefore it’s a must for a game of this standard to provide users with fluid and well-optimized gameplay. But unfortunately for some PS4 users, the game seems to crash quite often. At times with an error code of CE-34878-0. Let’s see how we can get this fixed.

Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War PS4- Game Crashing FIX /Error Code CE-34878-0

There could be more than one reason why the game keeps crashing now and then. But I am sure if you follow these steps it will definitely help you out with any crash-related problem with the game.

Have you deleted the Saved Data for Cold War?

A corrupted saved data file is perhaps the most common cause of all crashes. Normally a crash at startup would indicate that there could be an issue with the saved file. Well in that case we could delete the saved data and check. Yes, we would lose the campaign progress. However, you will not lose any of the unlocks. This is how you do it :

  • Go to Settings on your Console Menu
  • Then select the option Storage
  • A Storage List will appear on the screen. Select Saved Data from there
  • Then select Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War from the list and press the Options on your controller
  • On the right side of the screen select the Delete option
  • You can select all the saved data files from there and then hit Delete again.
  • The saved data will now be removed completely from your storage.

Removing PS4 Cache and Rebuilding the Database :

Database issues are common. And this could also lead to the game crashing. Clearing the Cache and Database rebuilding should be done once every 2 weeks. This is how its done :

  • Power Off your console completely.
  • You need to look at the back side of the console to locate the power chord which looks like this :

  • Just pull it out and keep it unplugged for like a minute or 2. This helps in clearing out the cache.
  • After that plug in the chord and press hold the power button. You will hear a beep when you hold it. Do not let go yet. Wait until you hear the second beep. This might take around 10 secs. This will boot the console in Safe Mode.
  • In order to work on the menu you have to plug the controller directly into the USB. Press the PS button as prompted on the screen.
  • You will get a list on the screen. Select Rebuild Database and hit Ok.
  • Doing this for the first time takes a while. However, If you have done it before it won’t take much time.

Try Reinstalling the Game :

At times a fresh installation is what you need to run a game properly. Maybe there could be corrupt files which is causing the crash. Re-installing will actually re-download the game again and this could help you fix the  problem :

  • Select Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and press the Options on your controller
  • You will get a list on the screen. Select Delete and then press OK.
  • Then go to Library
  • Select Purchased
  • Select Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War from the list you get and hit the Download  option on the left side
  • Wait till the download is complete and then launch the game.

Face Recognition feature to be Disabled:

Face Recognition had been causing problems for a lot of users. Most of them complained about the game crashing with an error CE-34878-0. Hence we recommend turning it Off . This is perhaps the most important step.

  • Go to Settings on your Console Menu
  • Select Login Settings
  • Uncheck the box next to Enable Face Recognition (this turns the feature off).
  • Restart the console.

Finally, try Initializing Your PS4 :

This step should be a last resort. Normally, the steps mentioned above should fix the issue but if in case it doesnt (which is rare), you can try initializing the PS4. Remember that this will reset everything in the console. All saved files will be lost. Therefore you need to upload your saved files to online storage so that it is not lost. This is how it’s done :

  • Go to Settings on your Console Menu
  • Keep scrolling down until you get the option Application Saved Data Management.  Select that.
  • Then hit Saved Data in System Storage from the list that appears.
  • Then select Upload to Online Storage
  • Now the list of games you have on your PS4 storage appears. Press the Options on your controller and hit Select Multiple Applications.
  • You will get an option to Select All from the right side. Hit Upload which should be at the bottom right of your screen.
  • On getting a prompt for an override, check the box for Apply to All and select Yes.
  • All the saved data from your console will now be shifted to the Cloud Storage

The backup is now done. We are ready to Initialize the PS4 now:

  • Go to Settings on your Console Menu
  • Scroll to the bottom and select Initialization
  • You will get two options Quick and Full
  • Full might take a few hours. We suggest you select Full instead of Quick

Now that you have Initialized the PS4, the OS is reset. You will need to re-download all the games which you have purchased. After the download is done just follow these steps to get back your saves from the cloud storage :

  • Go to Settings on your Console Menu
  • Keep scrolling down until you get the option Application Saved Data Management. Select that.
  • Then hit Saved Data in Online Storage from the list that appears.
  • Then select Download to System Storage
  • Select Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War from the list
  • Now you just need to select the saved data and hit Download which should be there at the bottom of the screen.

Hopefully, if you follow these steps it should help you out with any crash-related problems with Black Ops Cold War. Enjoy the game.
