Chronos : Before the Ashes – Game Crashing How to Fix

Chronos Before the Ashes is an RPG where you are a hero who is trying to defend his homeland from evil. Like every RPG there will be various weapons to use and different abilities to learn. But the most unique thing about the game is that dying does not really mean you will respawn from a checkpoint and play all over again, instead you grow 1 year older. The older you grow the less agile you become. You also loose strength with age. The game plays quite well on PC but however it crashes quite often . Let see how we can get that fixed :

There could be many factors responsible for crashes and performance issues with a game. We need to start with the basics.

Lets check the System Requirements :

Having the right setup is so important when it comes to performance. Trying to force a game to work on a PC which does not meet the minimum requirements atleast would basically lead to a lot of performance issues including random crashes.

You need to make sure you atleast have the minimum requirements for the game to actually work. Recommended is what you need for a smoother experience. Therefore if you do not have the proper setup you need to get your hardware upgraded as soon as possible.

Try Verifying the Game Files (Steam) :

During download there could be a missing file or maybe a corrupted file is responsible for the random crashes. Since we will not know which file is causing the problem , the best thing we can do is to run a file verification on Steam . Any missing or corrupted files will be re downloaded.

  • Launch Steam
  • On top select Library and then click Home
  • Select Chronos: Before the Ashes from the list on the left side and right click on the game
  • Click on Properties
  • Select the Local Files Tab
  • Then click on Verifying Integrity of Game Files
  • This will take a while depending on the size of the game. Re launch the game after it is done

Keeping Video Drivers Updated :

Performance are very common if you do not keep your drivers updated. Hence to prevent random crashes or performance issues of any kind with Chronos : Before the Ashes you need to get your drivers updated as soon as possible . Check below :

Keeping Windows Updated :

Windows updates are often ignored by users. But it has been proven in the past that windows update do play a vital role in the performance of your PC. So basically the performance of a game might go low just because of a faulty windows version. Make sure you have the latest Windows build.

  • Go to Update & Security
  • Click on Check for updates
  • Wait for the updates to get installed
  • Restart your PC

Turn Off the GeForce Experience Overlay (Nvidia users only) :

The Geforce Experience is a very useful app. It allows us to record our gameplay, save instant replays , take snapshots and other fun stuffs. What we overlook is that the toold comes witth various other NVIDIA processes which cranks up the CPU usage. As a result the game could easily crash. Hence if you do not wish to record your game or take screenshots just turn off the in game overlay to get a performance boost .

  • Start Nvidia Geforce Experience
  • Click on the Settings icon on the top right
  • Select the General Tab
  • Turn Off In-Game Overlay
  • Restart your PC

Turn Off Steam Overlay :

Steam Overlay could also be reason for performance issues. It has been seen that turning off the Steam overlay helped with a performance boost. Random crashes were also fixed by the same. This is how you can turn it off.

  • Open Steam Client
  • On the top click on Library, then click on Home
  • Then from the left panel select the game Chronos : Before the Ashes
  • Right click and select Properties
  • Then under the General Tab you will see the option Enable the Steam Overlay While in-game
  • Uncheck the box right before that . Then click Close.
  • Restart Steam and relaunch the game.

Re Installing as the Last Option :

Re installing the game should be a last resort. Try out the steps mentioned above and if you still  do not find any improvements then re installing could actually do the trick. At times corrupted files could go beyond repair leading to performance issues and crashes. Hence Removing and re downloading should be the best thing to do

  • Open Steam Client
  • Click on Library from the Top and then on Home
  • Then from the Left Panel select the game Chronos : Before the Ashes
  • Right click and select Manage
  • Then click on Uninstall
  • After the game is removed , the Play icon will change into the Install icon
  • Click on Install to start downloading the game again

These steps should definitely do the trick. In case if the issue persists then you have to wait for a patch fix since it could be an problem from the developer’s end.
