One of the best things about RE 4 was the number of puzzles the game tested you with. There were so many puzzles and each one was unique in its way. The puzzle we are going to talk about in this guide would be the one when you play with Ashley.
Leon is locked in a cage in Chapter 9 and Ashley wants to rescue him. She is brave enough to face her enemies with absolutely zero fighting skills. There will be a point when you come across a puzzle with a Grandfather Clock with adjustable hands. Here is how you solve the puzzle quickly.

Assisted/Normal Difficulty:
There will be a note next to the clock that says “The resting forebears answer to the chosen time“. So it is pretty clear that you would have to set the right time on the clock to solve the puzzle.
But the question is what could be the right time? If you try to randomly put a time on the clock it will take you ages to solve this puzzle. I tried out 3 ‘o clock as that is known as the devil’s time but sadly it did not work.
If you look around you will find a small clock lying on the table. Hold the lamp forward and check the time. The hands in the small clock seem to be very tiny and it is extremely difficult to tell the time.
However, I did manage to figure out the time from the shape of the hands in the clock.
It seems like the hour hand is on 11 and the minute hand is somewhere around 3 or 4 minutes.
Go to the big clock and interact with it.
I tried to confirm the time as 11:03 but it did not work. However, setting the time to 11:04 did the trick and that is the solution to the puzzle. Set the time to 11:04 and confirm that. You will hear the clock bell as it opens up a secret passageway for you to progress further.
Hardcore/Professional Difficulty:
However, for users playing in the Hardcore or Professional difficulty, the time will be different. It is great how even the puzzles change based on difficulty. You won’t be having the small clock in Hardcore difficulty or higher. However, you would come across a note that says “VIIXII Reloj” which means “7-12 Clock”.
This indicates that you need to set 7 ‘0 clock or 7:00 as the time on the Grandfather Clock to gain access to the passage.
