Every year EA adds new formations to the game. This year in EA FC 24 we have the 5-1-2-1-1 formation which is perhaps the most defensive formation in the game. If you are struggling with defense don’t think twice before switching onto this one.
The 51211, no matter how strong it is defensively comes with its share of downsides. The formation is extremely narrow and clutters up in the center. The lack of width would often catch you open in the wings. This is why you need the correct custom tactics to make this formation usable.

The lack of width in this formation could be compensated by using a wider defense. Use these set of tactics:
- The fullbacks would be pushing up in this formation and this is why we need our CBs to push out wider to stop the opponent’s wingers. Therefore use a higher defensive width of 53-57. Don’t go too high up with this formation. A depth of 44 works just fine. As for defensive style Balanced is the best option.
- Balanced and Direct Passing is meta again this year. Use it with 55-width and 5 players in the box.
Player Instructions for the 5-1-2-1-1:
Here is the set of instructions that you need to use.
- Wing backs on Get Forward and Overlap.
- CBs on Stay Back While Attacking
- CDM on Stay Back While Attacking and Cover Center
- More offensive CM on Get Forward and Get in the Box for Cross.
- More defensive CM on Stay Back While Attacking and Cover Wing. If you are good at tracking back, then use this one on Balanced instead of Stay Back.
- CAM on Stay Forward and Get In The Box for Cross
- ST on Stay Forward and Get In Behind.
The Objective of this formation would be to defend and then counterattack. Look for the overlapping runs made by your wing-backs. Lob the ball to them and then run down the line and do a cut-back pass. I know a lot of people call it sweaty but I didn’t make the game and every other user online is using the same thing.
Your CAM must have really high passing to distribute the ball to either the Striker or the wing-backs who are making runs. It is also worth noting that the striker should have decent pace (above 88). If you don’t have a fast striker, use a physical type as Target Man instead of the Get In Behind instruction.
