Forspoken- Won’t Launch & Crashing on Startup | How to Fix

Forspoken is a PlayStation exclusive which is launched only for the PS5 and Windows. A moment of silence for the old-gen users who would be missing out on this wonderful title.

The game is one of the best-looking titles I have seen to date. The visual effects in this game are mind-blowing. The combat is smooth and you could effortlessly take down hordes of enemies with a range of special skills that you gain as you progress through the game.

The graphics in this game is extremely detailed. The particles, textures, special effects, and a lot of things keep happening on your screen which tends to bring down performance by a lot.

So let me be brutally honest here. If you do not have a good enough PC, you are more likely to struggle when trying to run this game. The worst-case scenario could be that the game may not respond at all and cause your PC to get frozen or it may just crash.

Here are a few recommended steps that you might want to follow if in case you are having issues launching this game.

Step 1:

The first step would be the Configuration Check. It is basically checking the system requirements for this game.  Here is what the game demands:

You could see how demanding the game is. You are required to have a 6 GB Graphics Card to play the game at 720p 30fps. You do understand that anything lower than the minimum requirements would basically prevent the game from launching unless you are running the game at 800×600 resolution or something like that which makes no sense in 2023.

There you go, that is the first and perhaps the biggest issue for random crashes or the game not loading up. Users tend to force-run games on systems that cannot handle them. As a result, the overall GPU and CPU temperature goes up, the PC gets frozen, the game crashes and they go online looking for fixes.

We are looking for a config that is at least equivalent to the minimum requirements or better. The recommended requirements is for 1440p which is why I feel you may get a decent frame rate on 1080p with a similar config.

Step 2:

Driver Updates are absolutely crucial for titles like these. Triple-A titles normally get their own driver updates which helps in performance boost and crash fixes. So make sure you have the latest drivers for your graphics card.

Step 3:

There are some essential downloads that could prevent games from launching. Make sure you have these:

If the game is crashing with an error code “vcruntime140_1.dll missing” or “MSVCP140.dll was not found”. This would mean you do not have the latest version of  Visual C++ redistributable. Go ahead and get it from here.

Step 4:

Also, make sure that Windows is Updated. I would not say that this always causes a problem but it is better to have the latest builds.

  • Type Settings on the desktop search bar.
  • Go to Update & Security.
  • Then select the option Check for updates.
  • Wait for any pending updates.
  • Install the updates.
  • Restart the PC.

Step 5:

Chances are the game may keep crashing randomly on an HDD. An SSD is what you need for this game. You must be wondering how will a storage device affect performance. Well, let me explain it to you.

Every storage device has a certain speed when it comes to pulling up data. If the data required to pull up is small, an HDD is quite efficient. However, gaming requires a lot of data, which needs to be pulled up every second. This is why nowadays when the games are getting visually heavier, HDDs are falling short in giving users the ultimate gaming experience because of their low speeds.

An SSD on the other hand runs much faster than an HDD and hence pulls up data much quicker. This means you will be able to enjoy smooth gaming.

Due to this, games might also crash more on an HDD and if the game is as heavy as Forspoken, I would not even bother trying it on an HDD.

Step 6:

You need to turn off background applications like browsers, antivirus, and other apps. While browsers like chrome consume a lot of the RAM available, anti viruses directly prevent the game from launching.

The exe file of the game might be considered to be a malware threat by the anti-virus. So it is better to turn off live protection or turn off the anti-virus temporarily. Also, anti-virus consumes a lot of memory and you need to free up as much memory as possible to run this game.

Another better way to turn off the process would be to check the Disk Usage. Press Ctrl + Alt + Del and go to the Processes tab. Now click on Disk Usage. Check which running process is cranking up your Disk Usage. Turn it off immediately or if you cannot do that, wait for the disk usage to go down to normal levels before launching the game. In that way, the game won’t crash on launch.

Step 7:

If you are on a laptop with a configuration decent enough to run this game and it keeps crashing on startup, then this is what could be causing the problem.

Laptops by default run games on integrated graphics rather than dedicated ones. Integrated ones are not strong enough to run Forspoken. However, you can change this easily.

  • On the desktop search bar type “graphics”.
  • Now select Graphics Settings
  • Now go to Graphics Performance Preference and click on the drop-down arrow.
  • Select the Forspoken.exe file and add it.
  • Now select Options and click on High Performance.
  • This would select the dedicated graphic card as the default one for the game. The next time you launch it would not crash.

Step 8:

Lastly, corrupted or missing files could also be a reason for the game to crash on startup or it might get stuck and not launch at all.  Here is what you need to do.

  • Open Steam and go to the game Library
  • Select Forspoken from the list.
  • Right Click on it and select Properties.
  • Then go to the Local Files option on the left.
  • Now click on Verify Integrity of game files.

The game would check for any missing or corrupted links and would re-download them if necessary. If this does not fix the problem, you might want to Re-Install the game.

These are basically the easiest steps you can follow to fix any crash-related problems with Forspoken. There could also be a possibility that the game has flaws. And a patch fix from the devs might just do the trick.

You can also visit their official website and go to the Support option for further assistance.
