Gotham Knights are finally out on all major gaming platforms. The game looks outstanding so far. It is an open-world RPG in the most interactive Gotham City yet.

The plot, however, is super interesting I would say. Batman is no more and now it is up to Batgirl, Nightwing, Red Hood, and Robin to protect Gotham City from the notorious villains we have in the game.

The theme is dark and Gotham City is more dynamic than ever. This makes free roaming even more fun especially since each character has his own special way of traveling across long distances.

However, keeping all the good stuff aside, let’s talk about how the game performs. To be honest, the moment I heard that the game would run at 30fps on consoles with no performance or quality modes, I had a doubt that PC users would also have a problem running the game at its full potential.

Which is why the game is crashing for many users. Sometimes the game would not even launch, you would get stuck on a black screen or an infinite loading screen or the game might just simply freeze.

If that is the case with you as well then here are some fixes that you need to try in order to get these problems fixed for good.

Can Your PC Handle Gotham Knights?

The first thing that we need to check is whether your PC is strong enough to handle such a game. There is no point trying if your PC does not even meet the hardware requirements for the game. Therefore we are only going to check the minimum requirements for this game :

• OS: Windows 10 64-bit
• Processor: Intel Core i5-9600K (3.7 GHz) OR AMD Ryzen 5 3600 (3.60 GHz)
• Memory: 8 GB RAM
• Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Ti OR AMD Radeon RX 590
• DirectX: Version 12
• Storage: 45 GB available space

If you have a setup equivalent to or better than the one mentioned above, then you could run the game easily. However, if you own a PC not as good as this one, then you would be lucky to even launch the game.

The specs that you see above are for running the game at 60 fps on Lowest Settings and 1080p resolution. Reducing the resolution would give you a boost in performance but the game would look so blurry that it won’t even make sense why you are even trying to run it in the first place.

So basically if your system is not as good as the minimum requirements for this game, chances are you would have a lot of crashes. The game might freeze or get stuck on a black screen and there would be nothing you could do to fix it.

Important Updates For Your PC :

There are a lot of updates that your PC needs in order to run games properly. The GPU drivers, the Windows updates, the Microsoft Visual Studio, and so on.

The most important is the Graphics Driver for your PC. AAA games like Gotham Knights normally get dedicated driver updates. Try downloading the latest GPU Drivers from below :

• AMD Drivers
• NVIDIA Drivers

If the game is crashing with an error code “vcruntime140_1.dll missing” or “MSVCP140.dll was not found” . Then this means you do not have the latest version of  Visual C++ redistributable. Download it from here.

Also, make sure that Windows is Updated.

• Type Settings on the desktop search bar.
• Go to Update & Security.
• Then select the option Check for updates.
• Wait for any pending updates.
• Install the updates.

Turn Off Antivirus and Background Applications :

The exe file for games can be recognized as threats by your Anti Virus and prevents you from launching the game. You could temporarily disable the Antivirus or allow the Gotham Knights.exe file through it by adding an exception.

Also, Background applications like Web Browsers crank up your Disk Usage by a lot. Trying to run a game as heavy as Gotham Knights with above 90% Disk Usage would lead to an instant crash.  Makes sure all unnecessary applications are off when you play the game.

Crashing, Freezing, or Black Screen on Laptop :

A common problem for laptop users is that the game by default starts running on the integrated GPU instead of the Dedicated one. This often leads to crashes. Here is how you can fix it :

• Go to the Desktop Search bar and type Graphics.
• Click on Graphics Settings
• Below  Graphics Performance Preference click on Browse
• Select Gotham Knights from the directory where you have installed the game.
• Then click Options and select High Performance.

This will basically change the GPU to dedicated and the game will not crash anymore. But make sure you restart the PC.

No Overclocking :

Overclocking is fun no doubt. But nowadays it seriously could impact gaming performance. Software or applications like MSI Afterburner and Zotac Firestorm do not work well with games these days. Lets say Overclocking is not healthy for your PC. I would recommend not doing it.

File Verification for Gotham Knights?

Another reason for a game crashing could be corrupted or missing files. Running a file verification check on the installed directory might let you know which file is missing. Luckily Steam and Epic games allow file verification. If they find any missing files they will be downloaded and installed.

Steam :

• Launch Steam and head to Library and then Home
• Now select Gotham Knights from the games panel.
• Right-click on the game and select Properties.
• Select Local Files
• Then click on Verify Integrity of Game Files. 
• This will take a while. Re-Launch the game.

Epic :

• Launch Epic Games
• Go to Library
• Select Gotham Knights

SSD is Recommended :

If you are not using an SSD, use it. It is high time you get it Upgraded. HDDs are slow and severely affect gaming performance nowadays. I have seen people getting 20+ FPS boosts while running the game on SSDs. The game loads up faster and prevents any kind of data blockage which could lead to a crash.

If all of these steps above, do not fix the crash related problems in Gotham Knights for you then I would recommend Re-Installing it.  At times, all we need is a fresh installation.

However, if the problem still persists then maybe it could be a bug with the game and needs to be fixed with a patch update. If that is the case then you need to wait for a patch fix.
