Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy – Boost Performance and FIX Lag

This guide is about getting a boost in Performance and reducing Lag and Stuttering for Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy.

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy – Boost Performance and FIX Lag

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy is finally out on all platforms and the game looks terrific. Play as Star Lord as you lead the Guardians into an exciting and intense adventure in saving the universe. Honestly, I had been waiting for this game not only because I am a fan of the movie but also because I wanted to see how they improve over their previous installment of Marvel’s  Avengers which was not taken very well by the people.

A lot of users however are complaining about the game being unoptimized and that it would keep lagging and stuttering all the time. Well, there are a few easy steps that could give you a decent performance boost.

Step 1 :

Checking the system requirements for Guardians of the Galaxy would be your first step. We often ignore the requirements of a game and just try to run them on setups that are not good enough for that game. Here is what the requirements for Guardians of the Galaxy look like :

MINIMUM:

    • OS: Windows 10 64-bit Build 1803
    • Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 1400 / Intel Core i5-4460
    • Memory: 8 GB RAM
    • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 / AMD Radeon RX 570
    • DirectX: Version 12
    • Storage: 80 GB available space

RECOMMENDED:

    • OS: Windows 10 64-bit Build 1803
    • Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 1600 / Intel Core i7-4790
    • Memory: 16 GB RAM
    • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Super / AMD Radeon RX 590
    • DirectX: Version 12
    • Storage: 80 GB available space

If you have a system config equivalent or better than the recommended requirements then I don’t think you would be having any kind of performance issues. However, if you have anything lower than the minimum you will be struggling with performance a lot.

Also, make sure you have your video drivers updated to the latest builds. Check the link below for driver updates :

Step 2 :

Make sure applications like Google Chrome and other web browsers are off completely. Overlays like Steam, Nvidia, and Discord crank up your CPU and Disk Usage causing a lot of FPS Drops and Stuttering in the game. Services like Service Host: SysMain literally raises your CPU and Disk usage to above 90% which will definitely hit the performance of any game you run no matter how strong your system is. Turn these off for a better gaming experience.

Step 3 :

Use commands under Launch options for Guardians of the Galaxy. Trust me it works wonders when it comes to improving performance.

  • Open Steam and go to your Game Library
  • Right, Click on Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy and select Properties. Then select General
  • Under launch options type – -high – USEALLAVAILABLECORES
  • Make sure you type it exactly the way I showed you
  • Restart Steam.

Step 4 :

If these do not work for you try turning on Hardware Accelerated GPU-scheduling under your Windows Graphics option. This option helps in improving gaming performance.

  • Just type Graphics on the windows search bar
  • Now click on Graphics Settings
  • Then just turn  Hardware Accelerated GPU-scheduling to ON
  • Remember that you need to have the latest windows 10 build for this option to appear. If you do not have this option you have to update your Windows first.

Step 5 :

If none of these work for you, try verifying game files. At times corrupted or missing files would be the cause of poor performance.

  • Open Steam and go to Library
  • Then Right click on Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy and click on Properties
  • Under the Local Files tab click on Verify Integrity of Game Files.
  • This will take a while since the game is pretty big.

The last option that you may try is a fresh install. Yes, Re-installing the game could be the last resort. However like I said before if you do not have the right setup it would be useless to do these steps because your PC is just not capable of running the game. These are steps that give you a little boost in performance if you already have a good enough PC and you have also reduced the in-game graphics to low. If you still do not have an increase in performance it could probably be a game issue. Waiting for a patch would be the best thing to do.
