Persona 5 Strikers –LAG / FPS Drops / Performance Issues | How to Fix

Persona 5 Strikers looks pretty amazing so far. It got a lot of good reviews and the game plays well for the console users. However things do not look  nice for the PC users. The game seems be very poorly optimized as the users with even high end PCs would experience performance issues such as lag , stutters and occasional FPS drops. If you are experiencing the same issues with the game , do not worry . We would walk you through some simple steps which would help you get a decent performance boost in game.

Persona 5 Strikers –LAG / FPS Drops / Performance Issues | How to Fix

There could be a lot of reasons why the game would have performance issues. Most of the time we tend to ignore the basics.

Check if you have the right setup to Run the Game :

Persona 5 isn’t the most demanding game out there but it certainly requires a decent setup to run. Hence if you do not have the right setup there is not point following the rest of the guide. The requirements you would probably need to run the game looks somewhat like this :

Minimum:

    • OS: Windows 8.1, 64bits
    • Processor: Intel Core i5-2300 / AMD FX-6350
    • Memory: 6 GB RAM
    • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 (2GB) / AMD Radeon HD 7870 (2GB)
    • DirectX: Version 11
    • Storage: 25 GB available space

Recommended:

    • OS: Windows 10, 64bits
    • Processor: Intel Core i5-3470 / AMD FX-8350
    • Memory: 8 GB RAM
    • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 (2 GB) / AMD Radeon HD 7970 (3 GB)
    • DirectX: Version 11
    • Storage: 25 GB available space

You need to have the minimum setup to atleast run the game at its lowest performance. Hence I would recommend you have a setup somewhere between minimum and the recommended. The higher the better ofcourse.

The Best Graphics Settings for the game :

Try these in game settings to get a decent performance boost :

  • Graphics Quality Settings (Overall) – Custom
  • Shadow – Low
  • Texture Quality – Mid
  • Anti-aliasing – On
  • Ambient Occlusion – Off
  • Bloom – Off
  • Radial Blur – Off
  • Rendering Scale – 0.9

The Rendering Scale Glitch Fix

The Rendering Scale in the game doesnt quite work the way you would want it to . It some how doubles the value leading to a lot of performance issues. Fortunately there is a fix to this which had been proven to have worked well for a lot of users. Here is how you do it :

  • Changing the resolution scale in game does not seem to work properly . It somehow messes up the value. For example if you tried to lower your Resolution scale to even half which is 0.5 it would still not make a difference. So I changed it back to 1 and it was still the same performance.
  • On checking the config file , the config.xml file , found in C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\SEGA\Steam\P5S ,  I found that the resolution scale was “20” (which corresponds to 2.0 in game). While in the game it still showed 1.0
  • So i manually edited the config.xml file and changed the resolution scale to a value I would like . To change it to 1.0 in game I would make it 10 in the file.
  • This would actually fix the rendering scale problem in game and I would get a performance boost.

Nvidia Control Panel Settings for the game (NVIDIA Users)

The NVIDIA users can make these changes in the control panel in order to get a performance boost in the game.

  • Open Nvidia Control Panel
  • Click on ‘Adjust image settings with preview’ from the left panel
  • Just select  ‘Use the advanced 3D image settings’
  • Click on Manage 3D settings
  • Now make the following changes:
Power Management : Prefer Maximum Performance
Texture filtering Quality : High Performance
    Threaded optimization : On
    Vertical sync : Off
  • Hit Apply

AMD Control Panel settings (AMD users)

Right-click on your desktop and select AMD Radeon Software. Choose the Gaming tab and select Global Graphics. Set the Graphics Profile to “eSport”. Then make these changes.

  • Radeon Anti-Lag : Disabled
  • Radeon Chill : Disabled
  • Boost : Disabled
  • Image Sharpening : Disabled
  • Enhanced Sync : Disabled
  • Vertical Refresh : Always Off

Turn off all Overlays :

Make sure that all the overlays like Steam, Nvidia and Discord should be turned off. The overlays tend to make the disk usage go higher. for example the Nvidia Ge Force overlay will have a process Nvidia Container which really takes up a lot of Disk usage causing stutters and fps drops during gaming.

Steam Overlay :

  • Launch Steam
  • On top select Library and click Home
  • On the left panel look for  Persona 5 Strikers
  • Right click on the game and select Properties
  • Click on General Tab
  • Uncheck the box next to Enable the Steam Overlay while in-game

NVIDIA Overlay :

  • Start Nvidia Geforce Experience
  • Select Settings icon from the top right
  • Select the General Tab
  • Turn Off In-Game Overlay

Discord Overlay :

  • Turn on Discord
  • If you look at the bottom you should find 3 options Mute , Deafen and User Settings
  • Click on User Settings and on the left side you will get an Overlay option
  • Turn off the switch next to Enable in-game Overlay.

Well, I believe these steps would definitely help you get a performance boost. However let me tell you this that the game come with  Denuvo DRM which actually helps in preventing privacy but it kind of makes a huge impact on the performance of a game . The game might just still be laggy after all the fixes I have told you. If that be the case then a patch fix would be the best solution for this. Hopefully we get one soon enough .
