Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty- How to Defeat First Boss Zhang Liang

Are you finding it difficult to defeat Zhang Liang in Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty?

Well, this guide will help you defeat him easily in the game.

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty- How to Defeat First Boss Zhang Liang

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty is a dark fantasy Three Kingdoms action RPG from Team NINJA. It is finally out on all platforms and the reviews were pretty average so far.

This is the same team who developed Nioh but let’s just be honest, Wo Long is not as good. However, it still gives you a similar style of fast-paced hack and slash type of gameplay. The graphics are good, the combat system is identical to Sekiro, and loads of customization options for users who like to spend a lot of time in the menus.

The game throws a variety of weapons at you suited to your own unique playstyle. The ability to deal elemental damage also makes combat deeper, giving you more build options for your character.

This is how you can easily defeat boss Zhang Liang:

As you progress through the story there will be a point when you come across this giant beefy man called Zhang Liang. He is the first boss in the game and is pretty easy to defeat if you know what you are doing.

Like every boss battle in video games, you need to understand the pattern of his moves. The good thing about Wo Long is that you can block almost any attack and parry literally anything in the game. This is what we are going to use to our advantage.

Zhang Liang has a long weapon with good enough reach. However, the weapon is pretty slow and this is what we are going to take advantage of. It is better to use a weapon that swings fast like the sword you start the game with or any weapon with high swing speed.

The spells you would need are Enhanced Defense (which reduces the damage you take from enemies for a period of time) and Absorb Vitality (which lets you heal when you deal damage to the enemy). It is fine if you want to fight the boss without spells but I would recommend using these two to make life easier.

The fight against Zhang Liang has two phases.

Phase 1:

This phase is super easy as Zhang Liang swings his weapon at you in a very obvious pattern. Normally two swings are followed by an overhead attack. This attack is pretty slow and youc an easily parry it leaving the boss staggering. This is when you have to deal as much damage as you can.

Do not keep blocking all the time as your spirit gauge will keep rising. When it is full you will no longer be able to block. So block a hit and parry the next. Try to understand how he moves and notice his animation carefully as he attacks.

Like I said before you can block almost everything. However, there are certain attacks that are unblockable. These are normally the red-glowing attacks that the enemies throw at you. Zhang Liang will also have two unblockable attacks which can either be dodged or parried. Yes, Wo Long lets you parry an unblockable attack. This is the best thing in the game and we need to make full use of this feature.

You can also use the spells after you parry as Zhang Liang will be staggered for a while. Use the Absorb Vitality spell after the parry and then attack Zhang Liang to regain back some health.

Try not to dodge attacks as they are highly unreliable. If you are not sure about parrying then doge backward instead of going sideways. To successfully parry attacks wait till the last second when the attack is about to hit you and tap the parry button. The timing is crucial and you can get hit if it is wrong.

Keep attacking Zhang Liang until his health bar runs out to proceed to the next phase.

Phase 2:

This is when Zhang Liang changes into a monster and becomes even more dangerous. His weapon becomes longer and the best thing would be to maintain distance.

There will be an attack where he would smash the ground and send a barrage of spikes towards you. This can easily be dodged to the side. The next move would be him charging at you with his weapon. Parry this attack and get as much damage as you can. You can also dodge or block it normally.

His unblockable in this phase would be a long-range attack. You need to parry this at all costs. Get as much damage as you can when you parry it. Also, keep an eye on the Divine Beast gauge at the bottom right. It should get full as you parry three of these long-range unlockables.

Once it is full, unleash your inner beast and defeat Zhang Liang for good.

There you go, that is how you can defeat boss Zhang Liang in Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty.
