Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty Won’t Launch and Crashing | How to Fix

Is Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty not launching? Is the game crashing on startup?

Well, you have come to the right place. This guide will help you fix any kind of crash related issues with Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty.

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty Won’t Launch and Crashing | How to Fix

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty is an action RPG developed by Team Ninja and published by Koei Tecmo and is released on all major platforms.

The game features the Later Han Dynasty where demons plague the Three Kingdoms. The game offers you an amazing combat system based on old Chinese Martial Arts as you fight for survival. Rise up to be a hero who protects the Three Kingdoms.

You can choose from a variety of weapons that fits your playstyle. Not only that, the game lets you use Wizardry spells to deal elemental damage on your enemies as well.

Wo Long is more of a linear open-world game. The hack-and-slash style of gameplay is personally my favorite and might be for a lot of you as well. Performance is key for fast-paced, hack-and-slash games like Wo Long.

Your character development depends a lot on the loot you find. Now imagine getting something really good and the game crashes. One can feel how extremely annoying it would be if you had to play an RPG where you keep losing loot because the game would keep crashing.

Well, this guide will help you out with just that. Here are a few steps that would help you fix the problem.

System Requirements for Wo Long- Fallen Dynasty:

Most games these days are not PC friendly. Especially the AAA titles which invest time and attention to graphical details. If you do not have the right hardware, chances are the game would only crash. If in case it does not, then it would probably run with a lot of performance issues.

Here are the system requirements for Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty:

MINIMUM:

    • Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
    • OS: Windows® 10, Windows® 11, 64bit
    • Processor: Intel® Core™ i5-8400、AMD Ryzen™ 5 3400G
    • Memory: 8 GB RAM
    • Graphics: GeForce GTX 1650 4GB、Radeon RX 570 4GB
    • DirectX: Version 12
    • Network: Broadband Internet connection
    • Storage: 60 GB available space
    • Sound Card: 16 bit stereo, 48kHz WAVE file can be played

RECOMMENDED:

    • Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
    • OS: Windows® 10, Windows® 11, 64bit
    • Processor: Intel® Core™ i7-8700、AMD Ryzen™ 5 3600XT
    • Memory: 16 GB RAM
    • Graphics: GeForce RTX 2060 6GB、Radeon RX 5700XT 8GB
    • DirectX: Version 12
    • Network: Broadband Internet connection
    • Storage: 60 GB available space
    • Sound Card: 16-bit stereo, 48kHz WAVE file can be played

These are the system requirements according to Steam. If you are anywhere higher or equivalent to the minimum requirements, you are in the safe zone. However, if you have a config that is not as good as the minimum requirements, then you would not be able to run the game properly resulting in frequent crashes and performance issues.

Drivers and Updates:

Make sure you have updated drivers for your GPU.

If the game is not launching, it could be because you do not have some essential downloads.

An error code “vcruntime140_1.dll missing” or “MSVCP140.dll was not found” found after a crash or before launch would mean you do not have the latest version of  Visual C++ redistributable.

Download from here.

Also, make sure you have updated windows to its latest build.

  • Type Update and Security on the desktop search bar
  • Then click on Check for updates.
  • Wait for any pending updates.
  • Install the updates.
  • Restart PC.

How Wo Long- Fallen Dynasty could Crash because of RAM and VRAM?

If you check the System Requirements, the game requires 16GB of RAM to run at 60 FPS on 1080p. This might sound like users who have 16 GB of RAM are in the safe zone, but trust me you are not.

We had seen Hogwarts Legacy claim to run on 16 GB but when the game was released, it utilized more than 18GB even on Medium settings (even after the memory leak was fixed). Remember that you have to run Windows along with a few other background apps that are necessary.

So if the game takes up all the 16GB of RAM, you would probably run short of Memory because of the other background apps that you need to run. This is where you face performance issues which would most of the time result in the game crashing.

If you have not upgraded your RAM yet, it is high time you should. Future titles would be super hardware-demanding and there would be no chance that 16GB would be enough. I am not saying that you need to buy more RAM to run Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty. I am simply stating that RAM is one of the big reasons why the game keeps crashing on your system.

When it comes to VRAM, it is more of a different story. Ingame textures are more dependent on VRAM than on GPU Quality. If you have 4GB of VRAM you should do not use Textures on High Quality for this game.

This would instantly crash the game when it fails to load all of the textures.

Use an SSD:

SSDs are much faster compared to HDDs. They load up data much faster and this results in stable performance. If you are using an HDD, there could be a possibility that the data could not load up in time. As a result, the game would freeze and crash after a while, or just remain frozen.

If you have both make sure you select the install directory as the SSD for Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty.

Background Apps and Antivirus:

Background apps like Web Browsers (especially Chrome) take up a lot of RAM. The more Ram you can free up, the better you can run the game. So, turn off all the unnecessary background apps to free up more RAM for the game.

Antiviruses on the other hand interfere directly with the game’s executable file. They often block the exe file thinking that it could be malware or a potential threat to your PC preventing the game from launching. Therefore have the anti-virus temporarily turned off.

Wo Long Crashing for Laptop Users

If Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty is crashing on your gaming Laptop which has excellent specs then it could probably be running on your integrated GPU instead of the dedicated one. The game would probably not launch with a crash error code or stay frozen on a black screen. Here is what you need to do:

  • Type “graphics” on the desktop search bar and select Graphics Settings
  • Under Graphics Performance Preference and click on Browse.
  • Select the WoLong.exe file and add it.
  • Now select Options and click on High Performance.
  • This should fix the problem.

Verification and Re-Installation:

Missing or corrupted files could also be the reason for the game crashing. Here is what you need to do on Steam:

  • Start Steam and go to Library.
  • Select Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty from the game panel.
  • Right Click on it and select Properties.
  • Under Local Files click on Verify Integrity of game files.

This will take some time as Steam would run a check on the game files. Any missing file will be re-downloaded and installed. If this too does not work maybe a fresh installation of the game would do the trick. Try uninstalling the game and then re-installing it.

This could also be a problem from the developer’s end. Normally games are terrible before the day one patch. If it is a game problem then you do not have to worry as the patch updates will fix it.

There you go, that is all you need to know about Wo Long Fallen Dynasty crashing or not launching on your PC.
