Diablo 4- Cannot Assign Skill on Skill Bar | How to Fix

The latest patch brought in a lot of changes to the game. The majority of them were focused on nerfing everything to the ground to encourage a wider range of builds and play styles.

Patches as big as these normally come with their share of bugs and glitches. And of the most annoying bugs known yet would be users failing to assign skills on skill slots. I do not know whether this was an intended change but most users are extremely frustrated about this.

In this guide, we will be talking about fixing this horrible bug so that we can assign skills to our class with ease and keep enjoying the game.

Diablo 4- Cannot Assign Skill on Skill Bar | How to Fix

The issue occurs only when you are trying to drag and drop a skill to the skill slot with your mouse. For controller users, they can easily press L3 over the skill and assign it to the desired slot.

The only possible fix to this problem was to refund the skill and re-assign it to the slot. This made no sense as refunding skill points cost you coins. Why should you even pay to assign or change skills on the bar?

Maybe did this on purpose so that users don’t keep changing skills in the middle of a boss fight. I don’t really see a point but apparently, they are just trying to make the game harder for no reason.

Therefore we have a fix that could actually let you assign skills as you did before. Here is what you need to do.

  • Earlier, whenever you tried to do this the slot would go blank and you would not be able to assign anything to that slot until you refunded the skill.
  • Now,  you just need to drop the skill in a way that the top left corner or edge of the skill icon aligns with the center of the slot.
  • This is when you will be able to see the slot get highlighted. Now you can let go of your mouse to drop the skill in that slot. Take a look at the picture below.

The point is to drag the skill icon and drop it when the slot gets highlighted. This seems like a very annoying way of stopping people from changing skills quickly in between fights. I have no clue how this bug can happen now when it was working fine for a whole month before the patch.

That is all you need to know about fixing the issue of not being able to assign skills to the skill slot in Diablo 4.
