The 4-1-2-1-2 is a classic diamond formation which is excellent for fast-paced football. In FC24 the formation is extremely attacking and honestly, you need to be a good defender to use this formation effectively.
The diamond formation used to be my favorite back in the old FIFA days. However, now the formation does not work like it used to.

The main drawback of this formation is the low width. You will easily get flanked and we all know how much people love to run down wings these days. However, with the right set of tactics, you will be able to cope with any opponent.
- There is no point trying to stretch this formation out because the CMs will only stay restricted towards the center. We are trying to make sure our opponent has no chance of breaking our defense through the middle. Therefore 37 width is absolutely fine for this formation.
- Build-up play should be Balanced along with Direct Passing as Chance Creation. Passing is greatly improved this year. Especially the through balls. Direct passing will allow your forwards to make runs and you can easily launch those deadly throughs.
Player Instructions for the 41212 in FC24:
- Back 4 on Stay Back While Attacking. If you are very good at defending put one of your fullbacks (the one with better speed and passing) on Balanced and Overlap.
- CDM on Stay Back While Attacking and Cover Center.
- I use a winger as one of the CMs and I keep him on Get Forward and Get Into The Box for Cross. You can also do this with the more offensive CM. The more defensive CM should be on Stay Back While Attacking and Stay on the Edge of the Box for Cross.
- CAM should have Get Into The Box for Cross instruction.
- Keep the fast Striker on Get In Behind and the slower one on Balanced.
The best way to play the 41212 is to spot the runs of the two forwards and lob the ball to them. I know diamond formation is good for tiki-taka, but the game has changed a lot and tiki-taka is not as effective as the 41212 nowadays.
Pass the ball around in the midfield. Trigger runs with the forwards and lob it to them. The CAM should be someone with decent passing and dribbling.
