Hogwarts Legacy- What is Ancient Magic? Explained
Hogwarts Legacy is an open-world RPG that lets you live in the magical world of witches and wizards. The story goes way back to the 1890s and has no link with the Harry Potter franchise which we are more familiar with.
The amazing visual details that the game boasts of really make everything look so realistic. Hogwarts Legacy is nowhere short when it comes to content. The number of things you could do in this game would blow your mind.
The best thing about the game is that we are just not confined to the castle. We can freely explore the areas around the castle and as the devs had mentioned in their live streams, every place you could see in the game is a place you could physically reach. This talks a lot about how key exploration is in this game.
Keeping all that aside, we have learned from various live streams and official trailers that the game would include Ancient Magic. A lot of us were left confused when the term was used and this is why we are here today.
What is Ancient Magic?
This magical world we see today had not always been the same. Just like how humans have evolved through time, witches and wizards have too.
According to Harry Potter Lexicon:
“Ancient Magic is magic which happens independently of efforts by wizards, an effect which is triggered by events and powers endemic to the nature of reality. It is extremely old and mysterious, and a wand is not necessary for it to work. It is part of the “magical-ness” of the universe.”
We do not really know much about Ancient magic. But if you want examples, we can talk about the bond of love created when people sacrifice themselves for someone. Lilly’s love for Harry and the fact she sacrificed herself for him, infused his skin with the Ancient Magic of a mother’s love. This is the main reason why Voldemort could not finish off Harry or could touch him.
Also, if you talk about dragons and how they are resistant to spells, it is because of Ancient magic on their skins.
Since you do not need a wand for Ancient Magic, we cannot say that it is very practical or specific when it comes to using it. Choices and events happen to trigger Ancient Magic. It may also happen naturally through the will of a witch or a wizard.
Ancient Magic in Hogwarts Legacy?
It is a very broad subject. Hogwarts teaches students about ancient magic through a subject called Ancient Studies. However, if you ask me about how Ancient Magic will be implemented in Hogwarts Legacy, then I guess you will be able to use elemental magic, fast travel, or any kind of special skill or ability for which you would not need a wand.
Yes, our character has a mysterious history. He can probably use Ancient Magic thanks to his ancestors. But that is as much as we know about it for now.
