NRS decided to make our winters better with Season 3 (Cryomance Season) of Invasions mode in Mortal Kombat 1 (MK1). Shang Tsung’s laboratory is one of the Mesas and who else would be waiting for you in there? The Sorcerer himself.
Sinister Shang Tsung is easier compared to the other bosses of Season 3 with only the last part of the boss fight being a little tricky.
This is a guide where we are going to talk about how you can easily defeat Sinister Shang in Mortal Kombat 1 Invasions Season 3.
How to Defeat SINISTER SHANG TSUNG in Mortal Kombat 1 Invasions S3
There will be 3 phases to the boss fight. Make sure you build on your Attack, Specials, and Health rating for this boss fight. If you are using Johnny Cage, only build on Attack and Health. I focused mainly on Attack to make sure I got the most out of whatever I connected physically.
Rounds 1 and 2:
These rounds are pretty simple. Shang has the ability to delay his moves. This could easily catch you off guard as it initially did to me. The sorcerer would also armor your moves when he is blasting you with projectiles. So make sure you do not use long strings.
Uppercuts are really effective and do a great deal of damage with a high attack rating. Do not repeat the same move more than 2 times in a row. The AI is smart and will block if you spam the same move over and over again.
Round 2 starts with Shang drinking a potion and breaking the bottle. Remember, that you will keep losing health as you move or hit Shang. If you stand still your hp does not drop. This is why you need to build on your Health Rating before starting the fight.
Round 3:
Round 3 starts with Shang taking out a syringe and breaking it causing it to rain acid all over the stage. Similar to the last round, you will again keep losing health if you move or attack so make sure you end the fight quickly.
Just as you are about to defeat Shang a cutscene triggers when he has only 1 hp left and you would see him blasting himself into a Soulnado. This is basically a survival test for you as the Soulnado will suck in all the souls from the surrounding area and you have to dodge them. Things get even worse as it tries to pull you in as well if you are within its range. Jump away from it to stop it from sucking you in.
The best way to dodge the souls is to crouch. Most of them would just go over you. However, there will be a few that you would have to hop over. Jump straight up (not a forward or backward jump) and crouch immediately. You cannot dodge every soul. The point is to stay alive as the phase won’t last that long.
If you manage to survive the soulnado Shang appears again and all you need to do now is Finish him off. Don’t forget to drop a Fatality on him just for all the trouble he put you through.
