How to Do a GET-UP ATTACK/ PUNISH in Mortal Kombat 1 (MK1)

The Get-up or Wake-up moves in Mortal Kombat 1 are very different from the previous title.  This time you cannot combo directly off the wakeups like before, instead you have the liberty to use any special move as a wakeup attack.

This for me is much better since you can choose what move to do while waking up. You can also do getup moves to opponents who are far away from reach.

So if you are wondering how to do these Getup Moves or Attacks in the game, this is just the right guide for you.

How to Do a GET-UP ATTACK/ PUNISH in Mortal Kombat 1 (MK1)

Mortal Kombat 1 is by no means an easy game. You will be coming across opponents who will keep breathing down your neck giving you little to no time to react.

Disrupting the momentum of an opponent who likes to keep the pressure on really works wonders in this game.

The Delayed Get-up or a Get-up Attack / Reversal should be your way to go. The best thing about this is the fact that you don’t even have to pay a price for it. Back in MK11, getup moves would cost you a meter or a bar. This time it is free and spammable.

Some Special Moves can launch without meter burn and I don’t see a reason why you should not try that out when you wake up. Of course, negative frames on block is a problem but if your opponent is far from reach, why not give it a shot?

Here is how you do Get-up Moves in Mortal Kombat 1:

  • Delay: Hold down the Stance Change button when you fall down. This would delay your wakeup, and your opponent would most probably whiff an attack, or his flow would get disrupted.
  • Get-up Attack / Punish / Reversal: Do the Input for any Special Move while you are about to get up. Enter the input right when your character puts his head up while trying to get up on his feet. In other words, start doing the input right after his back hits the floor. With the right timing, you will be able to pull off a Getup Punish. You can also use an Enhanced move while waking up.

There you go, that is all on “How to Do a GET-UP ATTACK/ PUNISH in Mortal Kombat 1 (MK1)“.
