You need to first acquire the Cryomancer Heart before you get to this node where you solve the puzzle. The clue for this one would be “REWOP RATS” and it got me stuck for good.
At first, I was thinking about rats and how they are related to any MK 1 character. It made no sense to me until it struck my mind to look at the clue from a different perspective. When I reversed both the words it looked like “STAR POWER” and we all know by now which character the clue is hinting at.
Yes, Johnny is your man here. Change the character to Johnny Cage and adjust the stats in a way that suits your play style. I would suggest going for health and attack power instead of specials for Johnny.
To complete the puzzle you need to perform a Fatality with Johnny at the end of the round. I did the first one and it worked for me so I would recommend doing that.
