Where is the Chamber of Secrets & Can you Open it in Hogwarts Legacy?

Wondering where the Chamber of Secrets is located in Hogwarts Legacy? What if you could actually open it?

This article will not only help you locate the chamber but also help you understand if it is actually unlockable or not.

Where is the Chamber of Secrets & Can you Open it in Hogwarts Legacy?

Hogwarts Legacy is the most anticipated game of 2023 so far. It is the Harry Potter game that we always wished to have. A vast open-world RPG with tons of secrets to discover in and out of the castle.

The game even features an original story that has no link to any of the Potter books. Perhaps this is what makes the main missions ever so exciting. You just do not know what unfolds next.

Hogwarts Legacy is overall a masterpiece and I don’t think I’ll stop playing this game anytime soon. There is so much to do and I always find myself glued to the screen for hours.

What is the Chamber of Secrets?

While a lot of you might find this question irrelevant because most of the people playing this game are Potterheads, there are still people who do not know much about the story and are just enjoying an open-world RPG.

For those who do not know, the Chamber of Secrets was created by Salazar Slytherin, one of the four founders of Hogwarts.

Slytherin had a very different approach to which students were to be allowed to study at Hogwarts. He preferred pure-bloods and wanted them to be the only ones worthy to study at Hogwarts.

Pure-bloods are basically witches and wizards who do not have any muggles in their family tree.

The other 3 founders never agreed to this idea and Salazar Slytherin was cast out of the school. This is when he created the chamber under the dungeons of the school.

He also hatched a Basilisk egg within the chamber. Only a true Slytherin heir would be able to control the Basilisk and purge the castle of students who were not pure-bloods.

Where is the Chamber of Secrets in Hogwarts Legacy?

The Entrance to the Chamber of Secrets is not located where it should be. The original location to the entrance would be the girl’s bathroom on the second floor.

However, in the game, you need to go to the Entrance Courtyard and then make your way through the huge doorway towards the Great Hall.

You would see two staircases leading to the Great Hall area. Instead of climbing them go right past the hoghead statue and walk through the door. You would see a staircase that leads you down to the dungeons. This is where the Slytherin Common Room is in the game.

Head right once you get to an area where you could go either left or right after getting down the staircase.

You would find the Witch’s and the Wizard’s bathrooms. The Witch’s bathroom would be on the right and when you enter it you would find the same sink that opened into the chamber like in the movie.

The Entrance to the chamber would have a snake engraved on a tap. It is exactly the same one as the movie. However, you need to speak Parseltongue or Parselmouth (the language of snakes) in order to open the entrance to the chamber.

Salazar Slytherin was a Parselmouth himself and all known parselmouths are heirs to him. . Harry Potter was also a parseltongue but that was just him getting some of Voldemort’s abilities when he unintentionally made him into a Horcrux.

Can you Open or Unlock the Chamber of Secrets in Hogwarts Legacy?

Well, the answer to this could be a bit complicated. Let’s just say at this point if the devs want you to open it you will. They have everything essential to write an amazing plot that includes the Chamber of Secrets.

If you belong to the Slytherin house in Hogwarts Legacy then you must know about Ominis Gaunt who is a direct descendant of Salazar Slytherin. You know where exactly I am going with this now.

However, Ominis made it very clear that he is not like his family members who were obsessed with Dark Arts and their pure-blood status.

Does Ominis know about the location of the Chamber?

Well, yes he certainly does. He knew about the secret Undercroft location. He also knew about the way to enter the Slytherin Scriptorium.

So it would be wrong to accept the fact that he also knew about the location of the entrance to the Chamber of Secrets.

His grandfather Corvinus Gaunt knew how to enter the chamber and also helped conceal the chamber’s location when the plumbing system of Hogwarts was changed back in the 1700s.

This could mean there could be a possibility that the chamber had multiple entrances. In 1993, when Harry opened the chamber it was located in the girl’s bathroom on the second floor. While the one in Hogwarts Legacy is located in the girl’s bathroom near the Slytherin common room.

We have also seen in the Scriptorium quest that Ominis knows how to speak Parseltongue and he opens a door as well.

This could mean that Ominis Gaunt could very well open the Chamber of Secrets if he wanted to. However, he is not like his ancestors who were obsessed with the fact that pure bloods were the only ones worthy to stay at Hogwarts.

Also, we had seen Ron Weasley impersonate parseltongue to gain entry to the chamber. He learned it from Harry as he spoke in his sleep. So there could be a possibility that our character may learn the way Ominis spoke in Parselmouth.

What could possibly be the plot of the Chamber of Secrets in Hogwarts Legacy?

We do not have any story or quest related to the Chamber of Secrets as of now. However, I do not see a reason it could not be a part of the story as a future expansion or DLC.

Hogwarts Legacy has a tremendous amount of scope for DLC content and they could make the most of it. I know for sure I would pay anything for a Chamber of Secrets DLC.

There could be multiple plots that could lead to our character visiting the Chamber. However, we need to keep one thing in mind the Basilik inside chamber was actually eliminated by Harry and our character should not be taking the Basilik down at any cost.

This would only interfere with the original Harry Potter story where Harry defeats the Basilisk inside the chamber. Also, it was mentioned that the chamber was opened more than once in the period between Salazar Slytherin building the chamber and Tom Riddle opening it in 1942.

So, Gaunt could either open the chamber himself and take you along with him inside the chamber.  He is a true heir to Slytherin and would be able to command the Basilisk. This would mean that the giant snake would just be harmless to us.

The second way is that our character could be very curious and opens the chamber just like Ron did. This would mean that our character would have to escape from the Basilisk as there is no way he could defeat him.

All these are just concepts of future plots that could include the Chamber of Secrets. These are not confirmed yet. I hope we get exciting DLCs like these since Hogwarts Legacy is already my favorite game.
