It has been 12 years since the launch of GTA 5 and finally, we have the first trailer for Grand Theft Auto 6. Even after numerous leaks, the trailer still managed to excite millions of gamers worldwide. Let’s just say it was worth the wait.
Although the game does not officially launch until the year 2025, there is still hope that Rockstar might feel generous and launch it earlier in 2024. However, there is still one question that lingers in the mind of every user. Will there be a Day 1 release of Grand Theft Auto VI on PC?

Will GTA 6 Release on PC?
Well, GTA games have always been released on PC. It would be impossible for Rockstar to not release the game on PC considering the profit they make from that platform. However, they never really released games simultaneously on PC and Consoles. This was true for almost every Rockstar game until 2013. This is when Rockstar decided to completely ignore the PC race and launch GTA V on consoles only.
There could be many reasons for this:
- Rockstar was heavily criticized for doing a really bad port of GTA IV to PC. There were a lot of issues and Rockstar is a company that does not believe in quick strategies for making money. They would take their time and give you a finished product. That is why they earn billions of dollars because they take their work seriously.
- Modders completely change the entire concept, mood, and way the game is meant to be played. Often detracting from the creator’s credibility. Modding from day 1 is a big red flag for business. Console sales would drop because people would be playing the game on PC with mods.
- And then there is Piracy on PC where hackers create cracked versions of the game. Why would you even buy the game when you can download it for free on a PC?
Keeping all of this in mind Rockstar decided to avoid PC and launch the game only for the PS3 and Xbox 360 instead.
The same is true for GTA VI. The game will launch only on the PS5 and the Xbox Series X|S on day one.
When can we expect a PC port of GTA 6?
Not getting a Day 1 release certainly does not mean that PC users will never get to play the game at all. In 2015, Rockstar decided to bring GTA 5 to PC after a lot of users signed an online petition about the port. We have also seen console exclusives like God of War, Marvel’s Spiderman, and Miles Morales being ported to PC almost 4 years after their official launch.
Red Dead Redemption 2 however, was ported by Rockstar Games to PC only a year after its release. So we cannot be completely sure of a specific time window for a GTA 6 PC release. The game is going to be huge and it may take a while for them to do a decent port unlike GTA 4.
We still do not know exactly when GTA 6 will come out in 2025. So at this point, it is impossible to predict a release date for PC. As of now, Rockstar has only confirmed that the game will launch on the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on day one. There was no mention of a PC release anywhere.
However, we are hoping that the game might make it to PC within a year or two of its official release.
