Mortal Kombat 1 (MK1)- FIX “There was an error while matchmaking”

Mortal Kombat 1 is definitely a much better game than the previous title. However, when it comes to the online experience, the less we talk about it the better. Random desynchronization issues, server crashes and now there’s this new error code that pops up saying “There was an error while matchmaking“.

In this guide, we will be talking about potential fixes for this error.

Mortal Kombat 1 (MK1)- FIX “There was an error while matchmaking”

If you think the desync problem was annoying you should probably be uninstalling the game after this one pops up. It literally prevents you from searching for any matches online. So you are probably left with towers and the boring Invasions mode.

The worst part is that users have complained about it staying like that for almost 2 days and it was extremely frustrating to them.

The question is whether or not we have a proper fix.

Can this be fixed?

Well, to be honest, there is no official fix to this as of yet. However, there are a few steps we can suggest that may help you solve the problem:

Firstly, restart your Internet router and check if the problem is fixed or not. If it isn’t, follow these steps:

Step 1:

Apparently, creating a firewall exception seems to have worked for several users. Here is how you do it:

      • Go to the Desktop search bar and type Firewall.
      • Click on the option that says Windows Defender Firewall with Advanced Security.
      • Now head over to Inbound Rules
      • Select New Rule
      • Choose Program and then click Next
      • You have to add the MK12.exe file from the installed folder.
      • Select Allow the Connection and click on Next
      • Check PrivateDomain, and Public.
      • Give any name to it. I named it MK1. Then go ahead and click on Finish.
      • Repeat the same steps for Outbound Rules

Make sure you restart your PC once you have done these steps.

Step 2:

Use a VPN to run Mortal Kombat 1. Using a VPN would probably help you connect to a different server based in another location. Check which one offers you the best ping and you can continue playing until they fix the issue.  High ping might not be ideal for games like MK1 but if you just want to enjoy the game without worrying much about the connection delay, go for it.

Step 3:

Another reason could be the Antivirus Software. Turn off Real-Time protection and then launch the game. It seems like the Firewall and the Antivirus are preventing the game from going online. However, shockingly enough you will be able to play Invasions mode which is also an Online.

But so far these steps have worked for certain users. There are still people out there who are unable to search for matches at the moment. so I cannot guarantee whether this fix will work for you or not.  I hope NetherRealm Studios fixes the problem asap.
